It can be overwhelming when choosing a carpet style, as there are so many types to choose from. Carpet comes in a variety of textures, styles, colors and then there's the carpet padding to also consider. To prevent you from getting too overwhelmed, read on for helpful information you should consider to guide you when choosing the carpet for your home.

Where Is The Carpeting Going To Be Located?

If you're looking for carpeting for a spare bedroom that nobody uses except once every six years, but you just want to update it so it's from this century, you don't need to spend an arm and a leg on expensive carpeting that nobody is going to see. Find carpeting that you like, but that doesn't cost a lot of money, and skimp on the extra padding - again, if it's a room that nobody every really goes in, you don't need to spend the extra money. The same goes for other areas of your home that nobody frequents often. Update it to give it a new look, and to remove the outdated, but don't go overboard. On the other hand, if this is carpeting that is going to be seen and used a lot, you should invest in what you want and in good quality carpet padding that will hold up to the extra foot traffic.

Will You Be Sitting On The Floor?

If the floor is going to be in your main living room, or in a child's bedroom, you may sit on the floor from time to time, or your child may be on the floor. You don't want anything too hard, so invest in a plush carpeting, or a thick padding underneath Berber carpet to make the floor soft to sit on.

Do You Have Children Or Pets?

Smaller children are prone to spilling or having other types of accidents, which can damage carpeting. The same goes with pets, accidents happen. Invest in carpeting that is easy to clean and that doesn't show a lot of wear and tear, not just from heavy foot traffic, but something that can withstand your dog and your child's toys.

If you are considering investing in new carpeting, you need to figure out where the carpet is going, what the room is going to be used for, and whether or not it can withstand the test of time, muddy paws, and the occasional parade of toys. Talk to carpet dealers about what type of carpet may be best for you.
